Interesting grain features abound throughout this bowl. First of all, Spalting is any form of wood coloration or pattern caused by fungi. This type of wood is much sought after by woodworkers for its natural beauty. Besides interesting patterns in the wood, there are voids carved out by insects and the bark intrusion at the crotch is visible. This piece stands about 4" high and 8 1/2" at its widest point. The base is about 7" wide and the opening is around 5" across. It has a satin finish from a water-based polyurethane.
